To fall under the protection of the opposition clause in § 704(a), behavior need not rise to the level of formal charges of discrimination. Sias v. City Demonstration Agency, 588 F.2d 692, 694-96 (9th Cir. 1978). The opposition clause has been held to encompass informal protests, such as voicing complaints to employers or using an employer's grievance procedures. See, e. g., Hearn v. R. R. Donnelley & Sons Co., 460 F. Supp. 546 (N.D.Ill.1978); Hearth v. Metropolitan Transit Commission, 436 F. Supp. 685 (D.Minn.1977)."
